I knew the yankees would make serious play for roger, but not this soon. After the big boss made a statement last week that he would do "everything in his power" to help the yanks, he did what he always generously does. He Wrote the bigger check than his competitors were willing to do to help out his franchise.
Roger will earn apporx 4.5 mill per month for the rest of the 07 season. Some thoughts
1. I think yankees may have over paid by quite a bit here, but who cares it's not my money. The red sox have 100 million in a pitcher from japan who has been inconsistent so far. Obviously the astros will continue their cheap ways and let great players go. The reason for the overpayment and acceleration of clemens timetable is obvious.... Yankees are struggling and need help asap to get back on course
2. I think just the presence of clemens can make yanks pitchin better. barring injury, he will eat some innings up and keep the offense in the game. He can also have huge impact on wang and hughes and some of the younger guys. biggest thing is his toughness he brings to the table which yanks sorely need right now. Over the weekend they showed some toughnees against the mariners and i think it's not a coincidence we're winning more this past week.
3. He's 45 in august- clemens again ventures into unknown territory in mlb history to be prime performer at an age past 40. He has always broken through age barriers successfully and i'm sure he will again.
4. I still think yankees need to add another reliever or two to this current roster by being willing to let go of one of their hitters. cabrera or abreu would be top trade candidates in my book.
-Yankees look for series win and takin 3 of 4 from a lowly mariners club tomorrow as they run out their 11th new starter this season. reports on the new guy is he's tore up triple A this year as he's been dominant with heavy sinker. We need innings right now so 6-7 from new guy should be consider success.
Line- they are favs tom (-150) so looks like vegas thinks everyone is going to try betting a streaking yanks team. O/u is 11.
